Several years back when I was still in uni, the Macquarie Uni train station was announced and of course, everyone was excited about it. I was particularly excited as that would translate to a cut of about 30 mins travelling time from Waverton to uni and I would not have to switch transportation modes to get there. The ever packed 545 bus service was never really a joy to ride although it is serviced mostly by the newer busses. Alas, I didn’t stay long enough in uni to make use of it
I went for Alex’s graduation ceremony yesterday (Congrats man!) and I thought, why not try the new line since it was only a train ride away with a platform switch in between at Chatswood. Also, the service is free to use until the 8th of June 2009. You will still need a ticket to get through the gate which are handed out at the ticket counters.
The trains are the new OSCARs (Outer Suburban CARS), which are the latest addition to City Rail’s fleet and at this point operate exclusively on the Chatswood Epping line. The ride is quiet and comfortable but I did notice a minor glitch when the display screen showed the next station is Chatswood, right after leaving Chatswood! The digital voice announcement did the same too
The new stations were particularly impressive, built with a nice combination of glass, steel and cement. The interior and exterior of the stations look very modern with a nice design flair injected into it. I took some pics with my iPhone to share here
On my way out of the Macquarie Uni station. The platform is below, via the escalator as seen on the right

I like the use of glass and steel in the design
